1. What’s your hazing policy?
- We don’t haze. Hazing is like armpits. It stinks.
2. What is KYX?
- KYX is a Christian fraternity right here on campus at UCF. We strive to connect our Christian brothers to God through Christian fellowship, accountability and outreach.
3. What does KYX stand for?
- The greek letters stand for Kappa Upsilon Chi but the real meaning of KYX is Keeping Under Christ.
4. If KYX isn’t a part of IFC, how can it be a real fraternity?
- A fraternity by definition is a group of men chosen in their early days of study by a democratic process who have the same morals, beliefs, and values. It is also a body of people joined by similar backgrounds, occupations, interests, or tastes. The IFC doesn’t at all define a fraternity and you should question any other group that states otherwise.
5. Why not just become part of the IFC?
- We as a national fraternity have chosen not to become part of the IFC for several reasons. First, most other fraternities will tell you that they don’t like the restrictions enlisted on them by the IFC. Second, it would be nearly impossible for us to run effectively as a Christian fraternity due to the restrictions and guidelines that would be in place had we decided to become a part of the IFC. For one, we would not be allowed to accept only Christians
6. How can you be a Christian fraternity?
- Because we all have the same morals and values we can operate as Christian brothers as a fraternity.
7. What makes this fraternity different from a group or club?
- As KYX we follow certain traditional greek procedures that are very similar if not exactly the same as the average fraternity.
8. How much are dues?
- We’re not exactly sure how much dues will be. Last year they were $225 for pledges which is way below the national average. Because it’s an issue that’s voted on every year, it fluctuates. There is a possibility that it’ll be higher but not exorbitantly.
9. Do I have a say on dues?
- Unfortunately not. Because you can only vote as an initiated brother, pledges don’t have a say on any business matters concerning the fraternity.
10. How do I become a brother?
- The first thing you should do is sign up on our interest form at KYXUCF.com. From there we’ll keep you up to date and let you know what’s going on. We will invite certain people to become pledges after our rush events. At that point, we’ll teach you everything you need to know to be on your way to becoming a brother of KYX.
11. Do I need to fill out the interest form?
- Space is very limited. Although you don’t need to fill out an interest form, it’s strongly recommended as it will guarantee you a better spot in this year’s pledge class.
12. Do I need to come out to the rush events to pledge?
- No, but it is highly recommended. The only way for our brothers to feel confident placing a bid on you is to see, greet, and meet you.
13. How many pledges are you accepting this semester?
- We don’t set an initial limit for our pledge class. Acceptance is based on our brothers’ votes and the popularity of rush week.
14. How will KYX decide who’s chosen for this semester’s pledge class?
- At the end of rush week we have interviews with everyone who’s been invited. Afterward, the current brothers will decide which of you might be a good fit for KYX. We also will keep into account how many pledges we can handle for the semester. We will then proceed to place a bid on you if chosen.
15. Why do you only accept Christians?
- We believe that God has commanded us to reach to the ends of the earth in search of people who have not accepted God’s gift of salvation. The only way for us to do this effectively is to bond together as brothers in Christ and grow with each other, just as Jesus’ twelve disciples did so long ago. Even one non-Christian influence has the power to break this circle of growth and discipleship making our mission impossible.
16. How much time is required of me?
- As a pledge you will have weekly commitments and monthly challenges. There is definitely a time commitment, however it is possible to do much more than just the fraternity. One of our guys, worked two night shifts and studied for pre-med classes during his pledgeship, while another had two jobs and 16 credit hours. Several more of our guys were in the process of an M&M major which is said to the be the hardest major offered by UCF right now. There is definitely a time commitment, but nothing that’ll kill you.
17. What do socials for KYX look like?
- As Christians we believe that it is ok to drink in moderation if you are 21 or older. Because we have so many underage brothers and pledges we’ve chosen to make all of our events dry events. Our socials are much more about fellowship and fun, instead of crazy drinking parties.
18. I was already in a different fraternity. Can I still join?
- Contrary to what other fraternities may say, it is possible to join even in you have pledged before.
19. Is there some way for me to keep up to date with what’s going on?
- Yes, we give you detailed updates by way of email if you’ve filled out our rush interest form. You can also get more general information from our website at kyxucf.com.
